Spruce things up a bit, will ya?!

This morning, over a cup of green tea, I was thinking about how making inner changes starts to reflect your outer environment. And, how important it is that you are thriving in an environment that is open and accepting of the inner changes you are making.

Okay, this might be sounding a little bit wordy here. But what I mean is, when you are making internal changes in the way you think, feel, and act with intention, positivity, and focus, it’s only natural that things in your “outer world” will need to be altered as well. Stay with me.

Essentially, the space you live in may not be nourishing you in the same way as it used to; the colors, shapes, passage ways, greenery, in your home may need to be altered to bring you new energy in this space and give life to the new you. Your work area is no exception. Your work space should also be cleaned and spruced up a bit to help you achieve your greatest success, productivity and happiness on a daily basis.

Here are some quick, easy and low-effort tips that you can try at home and at work to reflect your new-and-improved inner self, and reap some GREAT benefits:

  1. De-clutter: file important papers into organized and labeled folders, throw away ANYTHING that you don’t need or want around. If you are “saving it for a rainy day,” store it in a labeled bin or ditch it and think sunny thoughts!

  1. Update photos in your frames: a great way to spice things up is to add new pictures to the frames that have been sitting there for years. You can even add colored or textured pictures to frames to give it an extra juicy feel

  1. Go green! Add some life and revitalization to your space by adding a tall plant in the corner, or some short potted plants or flowers on your desk and shelves. Take a deep breath and enjoy the fresh oxygen in your space – let it work its refreshing magic!

  1. Change up the way you’ve been organizing: get some new baskets, wooden boxes, colored crates, or anything crafty and re-organize your books, files, and supplies. Throw out old and dingy supplies that frustrate you every time they under-perform. Splurge on some great new office supplies and reap the benefits of high performance every time!

  1. Move some furniture around. Create a new walkway. Switch up the lighting from overhead lights to lamps and candles and pick and choose where you want them.

  1. Add color. Add colors that energize you. If you are warn out by warm earthy tones, change things up and add cool colored greens, blues, teal, cream, and white. If you would like to warm up your space add spicy reds, maroons, oranges, beiges, and earth tones. Whatever floats your boat!

  1. Create a “daily gratitude reminder.” This one is my personal favorite. This is something in your space that helps you to feel grateful for the things in your life, every day. Identify things in your life that you are grateful for about yourself, your family, friends, home, work, the weather, whatever it is, say and feel tremendous thanks. “Each new day is a precious gift, not a given.”

  1. This is where YOU come in. I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts on creating a GREAT living space. What do you do to your home/work space on daily basis to help nourish your inner self and keep you productive, happy, positive, stress-free? Share your thoughts in comments below!

  1. Hey Girl!I have a ‘success board’ that sits in plain site near my desk. Whenever I get a motivational note from a friend or peer I clip it and add to the board. Whenever I get a role or a new job I add it to the board. It’s great to keep a visual account of your successes at arm’s reach!
