Life is busy – and filled with so many mixed messages on a daily basis. Some of us are juggling ten different spinning plates in our lives at one time. How we keep them all going? A mystery I am still trying to uncover. And as a part of these hectic lifestyles we’ve created, we have an even bigger appetite for what we want out of this thing called life. And that’s great! But on a day to day basis some of us feel bogged down by negativity in the news, or discouraged to truly get out their and make our dreams a reality due to a limit of time, energy, money or resources. And, to me, that’s not okay! There is NO EXCUSE (not time, not money, not ANYTHING) that should be stopping you from FEELING GREAT and LIVING GREAT every single day of the year.
Today, I’m going to give you a couple of simple tips that help a young-entrepreneur/life-coach/social-media-strategist/public-relations-and-business-development-specialist/daughter/girlfriend/mentor/friend/and-so-fourth, like myself stay positive, get ahead, feel happy, fulfilled, motivated, energized, excited and inspired on a daily basis!
1. CUT OUT THE INFORMATION CLUTTER: Start reading, watching and interacting ONLY with things that you ENJOY, fill you up with GOOD energy, and give you information that pertains to YOU and YOUR WELL BEING alone. Only consume news that will get you from where you are “Here & Now” to where you WANT to be.
2. Take an uninterrupted YOU break, here’s the clincher….EVERY DAY. Life can get busy, distracting, and seemingly full even if it’s with work, people or activities that you enjoy. In our overflowing lives, connecting with ourselves first can have a monumental affect on other things in our lives. Like my mom always told me…”make sure you stop to smell the flowers.” In essence, take some time EVERYDAY just for you and SLOW IT DOWN A BIT, will ya? Go for a head-clearing walk, run, stretch, make a cup of tea and just relax while you drink it, watch the sunset, play your favorite song and listen to it all the way through without any other distractions….stop and smell the flowers, for YOU and only YOU.
3. Take GREAT care of yourself. There is NO excuse. Its is the only way to take GREAT care of things in your life too such as work, relationships, home, kids, car, the list goes on. Remember that haircut that you’ve been putting off, schedule it! That gym bag that you packed last week with the intention of getting to the gym, GO! That gift certificate for the massage you got LAST holiday…make time for it! You deserve it! Whatever will help you feel GREAT from head to toe….do it!
4. Set aside a time in your day to VISUALIZE your outrageous success. In a pressure-free zone, ask yourself:
a. What do I want?
b. What do I believe about the world?
c. What do I stand for?
d. What do I enjoy?
e. What are some of my healthy sources of energy?
d. What daily action am I committing to in 2010 that will make me outrageously successful this year?
You may even like to write down the answers to these questions and see where that leads you. How do you feel about the stuff you’ve written? Are you energetic and excited about it? If not, what can you improve about yourself, your environment, your work, your relationships…to get you to feel excited and energetic about those things?
5. TAKE A TECHNOLOGY DETOX! If you are really addicted to information, your blackberry, iPhone, laptop, applications, updates, etc….let yourself detox one weekend by shutting off your phone and disconnecting with the internet. If the thought of that makes you cringe, then this will work wonders for you! If you are resistant, sit down and envision yourself with no technological chains or locks. No urges, or anything…completely FREE, light, and independent, reconnecting with yourself, your hobbies and your loved ones. You CAN do it – I promise!
6. LIVE IN THE MOMENT. Be truly present at work today, on your commute, when talking with your partner or a friend, while eating your meals. Observe everything…how you feel, the colors, the sounds, the experience. Try this for today and see what happens. And most important, stop worrying, and start acting (with intention) today. Once you start worrying you leave the present and enter the future, and it’s impossible to be truly present if you’re living in the future. (Think about it) Re-prioritize your To-Do list, re-organize your workspace, re-connect with friends and family, de-clutter your information source, take a YOU break, visualize your outrageous success.
7. GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK…I mean it! As long as you have the momentum going, the success will come. If you LOVE what you do, the success will come. If you are acting in congruent with your values and beliefs, the success will come. If you are happy and fulfilled, the success will come. If you are living your GREAT life, the success will come.
It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind, and even spin off into a negative abyss once in a while, but TODAY is a different day. It all starts with listening to your heart and becoming in-tune with your true want, needs and desires. Once you figure that out, the rest will come. Remember, try to be as specific as possible when creating your goals or visions, this will help keep you on track when you stray or celebrate when you achieve!
Start living your great life TODAY! If not, now…when??
Got some great ideas or experiences to share….LEAVE A COMMENT below! Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!
#1 is a great tip. This is why I canceled my cable. Now I just watch a few shows either online or on DVD that I truly enjoy. The time I don’t spend getting sucked into TV I can do other more fulfilling things (read, make things, blog).
Simone –
What a great example! I love it! Way to free yourself up for activities, people and hobbies that were getting shoved into the background by meaningless “clutter” before.
So awesome of you! Thanks for the comment!
Amazing advice…i just told my bf about the technology detox… that’s important to me!
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving such a sweet comment…LOVE YOUR BLOG! Love the direction you are going and videos on dating are so great! Keep up the great work!!
Tip #1 is key. Much of the news (especially CNN- Constantly Negative News) is so depressing and frustrating to watch. I stopped reading and listening to main stream media approximately a year ago. I highly suggest using tools such as TweetDeck to create your own “news streams” where you are only connected to bloggers and people on the net who share information that is positive and relevant to you. Also, I recommend checking out AllTop where you are instantly tapped in to different blogs, alternative media, and also mainstream media- but you can create your own page of news which is awesome.
Which goes against what I need to do in #5 and take that technology detox. I am definitely too plugged in! I have even thought about taking a trip for a weekend with no laptop, no cell phone, and no agenda.
